Teenager catches tennis ball dropped from 469.5 feet

An 18-year-old from New York has achieved an impressive feat by breaking a Guinness World Record for catching a tennis ball dropped by a drone soaring 469.5 feet above ground.

Cameron Heinig and his friend, drone pilot Julian, invested two summers in rigorous training to attain the record for the highest tennis ball catch.

Heinig confessed to Guinness World Records that his initial attempts during the first summer didn't come close to a successful catch. However, the following year, he improved his chances by practicing with a baseball glove. After achieving consistency with the glove, he decided to try barehanded catches.

"I was a bit concerned that it might be painful, but I thought it was worthwhile for a Guinness World Records title," Heinig shared.

Heinig's official record attempt encountered a setback when a surveyor enlisted to measure the drone's altitude determined that the flying vehicle was too small. Consequently, adjustments were made to add a reflector.

On the day of his official attempt, Heinig ultimately succeeded in catching the tennis ball on his third try. The surveyor confirmed that the ball was dropped from a height of 469.5 feet, surpassing the previous record by 75.4 feet.
