An animal sanctuary in Oregon, the Welcome Home Animal Sanctuary in Creswell, has put forward a Holstein steer by the name of Romeo as a potential contender for the title of the world's tallest, measuring a remarkable 6 feet and 3 inches in height.
The decision to pursue a Guinness World Records title for Romeo was spurred by the current record-holder, a Massachusetts steer named Tommy, standing at 6 feet and 1 inch.
Romeo, now 6 years old, found his home at the sanctuary after a rescue operation at the tender age of 10 days when he was saved from a veal crate on a dairy farm.
Misty Moore, the sanctuary's founder and operator, recounted the rescue, "He was rescued from a compassionate lady who visited a dairy farm and witnessed the plight of the calves in crates. She successfully secured the release of five of them. Afterward, she contacted our sanctuary, and we were able to provide a safe haven for Romeo and Milo."
Moore expressed the sanctuary's intent to have Romeo officially recognized as the world's tallest steer
