Pumpkins impaled on university tower spires in mysterious annual tradition

Plymouth State University in New Hampshire has welcomed back one of its most enigmatic and unusual traditions, as two pumpkins were once again impaled on the spires of a prominent clock tower.

This peculiar practice has seen pumpkins perched on the twin spires of Rounds Tower, a sizable clock tower situated in the heart of the campus, every year since the 1970s. There was only a single exception when maintenance work was in progress on the roof of the structure.

Although this decades-long tradition is widely known on campus, the identities of those responsible for the yearly pumpkin placement, as well as the methods they employ, continue to be wrapped in secrecy.

The university's website playfully notes, "Just how they manage to ascend there remains a closely guarded secret, and conjuring the most imaginative, albeit far-fetched, theories about the process is a beloved pastime among the campus community."
